Financial Aid Workshop
More than 100 LHS college-bound students and their parents recently attended the annual college financial aid workshop organized by the guidance department and counselor Sara Spagna.
Information about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) was distributed. FAFSA is key for students to complete to be considered for state and federal financial aid.
A special presentation was given by Michael Turner, the client relations manager from HESC (New York State Higher Education Services Corporation). He discussed different types of aid, how and when to apply for financial aid, understanding what aid packages are and communicating with university aid offices.
At the workshop students and parents were offered help in calculating various financial aid options, as well.
“The workshop was intended for students and parents, regardless of where they choose to attend college,” explained LHS Guidance Coordinator Dr. Barbara Donnellan. “The same practices are used at most college financial aid offices.”
