SCPD Officer Injured in Crash
Collision with bread truck Tuesday morning in Lindenhurst sends patrolman to the hospital with 'non-life threatening' injuries.
A Suffolk County police officer was injured early Tuesday morning in Lindenhurst when his patrol car hit a utility pole as the officer swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting a bread truck, police said.
The officer, who police did not identify, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with “non-life-threatening" injuries that included a facial laceration that required stitches and an injured shoulder, police said. The officer was expected to be released from the hospital on Tuesday.
The driver of the bread truck was not injured.

According to police, at approximately 3 a.m. the bread truck was traveling eastbound on Montauk Highway when it moved into the turning lane and attempted to make a left turn on to South 6th Street.
The officer, who was the only occupant in the squad car, swerved to avoid collision. The bread truck then struck the rear end of the police car, which then hit a utility pole, police said.
