Stop Attempt, High Speed Chase Leads To Arrest In Lindenhurst: Police

Impaired and reckless driving are just two of the charges the 49-year-old driver now faces.

LINDENHURST, NY — A Lindenhurst man faces multiple charges after an incident Sunday morning.

Suffolk Police said an officer attempted to stop a 2009 GMC Yukon westbound on Sunrise Highway but the driver fled at high speed. The vehicle eventually stopped at 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Copiague Road and 49th Street in North Lindenhurst, but the driver refused commands to get out, police said.

Police said they observed he had glassy eyes and dileted pupils. Once he was extricated, the driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Identified as Carlo Sorce, of Bolton Street, the 49-year-old was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs 1ST Degree, Fleeing a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.

There were also two active bench warrants out for him, police said.
