Lindy Boys Swimming & Diving Finish Season Strongly
The Lindenhurst High School Varsity team produces six new school records and gained two Suffolk County champions.
The Varsity Boys Swimming and Diving team - coached by Brian Washington (swimming) and Tom Cornellia (diving), finished a successful 2011-12 season with an overall record of 4-2 (2-2 in League II).
In fact, the team placed in the recent League Championship, and had four of its players - three of whom were divers - qualify for Section XI Championship at SCCC (Brentwood Campus) on , February 18.
At the Championship the team placed third. All-League honors were earned by the following team members:

- Kevin Konarski (200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay).
- Adam Wawro (50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay)
- Greg Fothergill (200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay).
- David Andujar (200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay).
- Gerard Gigante (200 medley relay).
- Cory Birsner (400 freestyle relay).
- Tom Gilroy (400 freestyle relay).
- Chris Tocco (400 freestyle relay).
In addition, diver Michael Lettow placed eighth while diver Ryan Meehan placed sixth.
The Section XI County Championship was clearly a solid meet for the overall program, and the school. The team finished sixth overall (out of 23 teams), set six new school records and gained two Suffolk County champions.

Konarski established four new school records in the 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle, becoming County champion in the 500-yard freestyle. He also qualified for Junior Nationals in Orlando, Florida, and the Eastern Zone Speedo Champion Series Region I Sectionals in Buffalo.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Wawro, Fothergill, Andujar and Konarski not only set a new school record, but it also, for the first time in school history, is the County champion.
The foursome will represent Section XI and Suffolk County at the NYSPHSAA Swimming Championships in Buffalo.
Other notable Suffolk County rankings are as follows:
- Diving: Lettow, 11th, Tim Randazzo, 17th, and Ryan Meehan 18th.
- Swimming: Fothergill, eighth in the 100-yard backstroke and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley; Andujar, 22nd in the 50-yard freestyle and 15th in the 100-yard butterfly; Vitaut Gurskiy, 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke; and Gigante, 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The team also participated in the Eastern States Invitational held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in January.
The team placed 10th out of 28 teams, setting a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle. At the same meet the diving squad swept the six-dive event with a first-, second- and third-place finish.
