Village Board Inspecting Unsafe Homes
Two homes in SoMo were brought up during the recent village board meeting.
The Village of Lindenhurst is looking into the conditions at two homes South of Montauk Highway that could pose a safety hazard.
The two homes were discussed during the most recent village board meeting on June 4, noting their deteriorating conditions and possible hazards posed by their continued existence.
The first property, located at 15 Bayview Avenue West, was completely obliterated by the storm surge of Hurricane Sandy. Much of the home's rear, which faces the Great South Bay, is missing or collapsed.
The board accepted a statement from the Village Building Inspector confirming the home's "dangerous and unsafe condition."
Similarly, the village will be inspecting a property at 790 South Hickory Street to address concerns raised by the building inspector. The village board approved the appointment of architect Steve Feldman, of Amityville, to look into the conditions of the home.
The home at 790 South Hickory Street has been a talking point among neighbors in the area, with the home's roof partially collapsed, ripped tarps hanging off and much of the building leaning.
Feldman will be compensated $250 for his services.
