A new week has arrived and with it comes many happenings in Long Beach. Here’s just a taste of what you need to know this Monday:
1. Patch has several stories on tap: jury selection is slated to start in the “road rage” case of an Oceanside man who was charged with manslaughter after he drove over and killed a Long Beach man in 2009, and the Nassau County District Attorney is investigating a City Council member's unemployment practices. Also, make sure you come back later for our post on the early history of the Canals neighborhood, as well as a review of the new Avenue Café on Park Avenue.
2. Baseball fans listen up! The Marines takes the mound against Calhoun at 4:30 p.m. at Long Beach High School in the first of a three-game series.
3. Emilia Baer will give a lecture Bridal Gowns Throughout the Ages that takes you on a historical journey of wedding gowns and their evolution over the centuries. Baer will start her talk at 2 p.m. at the Long Beach Library.

4. Diabetics can join a Diabetes Club that meets every Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Beach Medical Center.
