Labor Day honors American labor. However, Americans seek more from their work than just earning a living.

Americans desire a sense of purpose in life.
I’ve met many people who genuinely love their work. Sometimes it’s work that their diligence brings an internal reward in knowing that others are better for it. This gives them a feeling of purpose in their lives.
In retirement, we seek enjoyment in activities we had little time for while working, such as hobbies, exercise routines, and sports. However, some of us look forward to having a purpose on Monday mornings to serve once again.

As the years tick by, various aches, pains, surgeries, and implants make us feel less able to have fun or purpose. Some of us resent it so much that we lie about our age, hiding our years.
I spoke with a Long Beach lady who served us well in her professional life. Now she’s shown others how she found fun and purpose in retirement.
