City Council Agenda for Feb. 5

The following is the calendar for the regular meeting of the Long Beach City Council for Jan. 8, 2013. For more details on the meeting's agenda, visit the City of Long Beach’s wesbite. 

1. Ordinance to Amend the Code of Ordinances of the City of Long Beach
Re: Appendix A – Zoning to Help on the Rebuilding of Houses
Throughout the City.
      
Legislative Memo: This amendment to the Code will allow residents
living in the area known as “The Walks” to raise the height limit of new
residential structures. These structures will comply with all FEMA and
New York State Building Code requirements. The height of a structure is
measured from the required finished first floor elevation to the mid-point
of a peaked roof and for a flat roof at the highest point of the structure.
This Code amendment is the same as the one passed by the City Council  
on January 8, 2013 for the areas known as the West End, the President
Streets and the Canals.

2. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase Salt (Mineral
Crushed Rock) Under New York State Contract.

Legislative Memo: This is an annual item to lock in the lowest pricing
available to the City. We renew this state contract at the beginning of
each calendar year. The pricing per ton for the 2013 year is the same as it
was for the 2012 year.

3. Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Purchase Paint, Primers and
Traffic Paint Under Nassau County Contract.

Legislative Memo: This item affords the City the lowest pricing available
for these products. The City is in the process of repairing numerous City
owned buildings damaged by Superstorm Sandy. These buildings, such as
the Senior Center, the Recreation Center, the Ice Arena, the East End and
West End Community Centers, the Martin Luther King Center, the City
Garage, 150 W. Pine Street, etc., will all require new paint work.    

    
4. Resolution Authorizing Budget Amendment to Community Development  
            Fund Budget Year 2012-2013.

Legislative Memo: Annual appropriation of the Community Development
Block Grant for approved projects such as infrastructure repairs and
improvements and funding  for public service programs, such as youth and
senior programs.

5. Resolution Authorizing Publication of a Notice of Public Hearing of an
Application to Waive the Off-Street Parking Requirements for Premises:
966 West Beech Street (street floor), Long Beach, New York.

Re: Transportation Dispatch Office for Beech Street Taxi
Legislative Memo: This item is on for publication only. Their previous
office located on West Beech Street was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.
