LONG BEACH, NY. — West Elementary turned the tenth month of the year into “Sock-tober” this year, as students collected socks to donate to New York City residents in need through a partnership with Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens.

District officials said the celebration was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the school, as West Elementary set a goal to collect over 100 pairs of socks.

“This initiative is one of several activities planned throughout the school year in
anticipation of the school’s milestone centennial celebration,” district officials said. “Alumni, former staff and community members who would like to take part in the upcoming festivities are
encouraged to reach out to the school for more information.”
