Long Beach Urges Water Conservation Amid Drought-Like Conditions
The Long Beach area only received 1.1 inches of rain since September 1.

LONG BEACH, NY — The unseasonably warm weather with the stretch of sunny days has been enjoyable, but that means rain has been lacking. The City of Long Beach is reminding residents to conserve water, even though it is not an official drought.
The Long Beach area only received 1.1 inches of rainfall since September 1, less than 13 percent below in that period.
"Long Beach has the purest source of drinking water on Long Island, but it’s a finite resource that shouldn’t be taken for granted," City Council President Brendan Finn said.

The city mandates watering lawns between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Additionally, odd-numbered addresses should water on odd days and even homes on even days.
"During drought-like conditions, such as what we are experiencing, we hope our residents will take a more stringent approach, especially as we approach the season when watering is not needed as much," City Manager Daniel Creighton said.
