March 25: Bridge Renaming Ceremony, Kindergarten Show, Spring Fling Luau

Here are five things you need to know for Friday:

1. A Long Beach Bridge renaming ceremony in honor of World War I veteran and Long Beach resident Michael Valente, a Medal of Honor recipient, will be held at 11 a.m. at City Hall. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and County Legislator Denise Ford are among the guests.

2. Lido Elementary School will host their kindergarten show at 9:45 a.m. at the school. The students will perform selections in front of the audience.

3. Want to spend a few kids-free hours alone or with your significant other? Seaside Celebrations on West Beech Street hosts a babysitting program called Parents Night Out from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Children can be dropped off to enjoy a movie and some pizza and juice.

4. Feeling kind of Hawaiian? Swingbellys will host their second annual spring fling luau starting at 9 p.m. This restaurant-bar on West Beech Street will have a special Hawaiian style pig roast, rockin' rum punch and leis.

5. If you've got an opinion on a local topic of interest, you can always share your thoughts by writing a letter to the editor. Letters may be up to 350 words in length and can be submitted via e-mail for consideration to post on Patch.
