The Passing of the Pied Piper of Long Beach

Well known beloved resident of Long Beach

It is great sadness that we announce the passing of Long Beach resident Norman Kaufman, beloved husband of Robin, devoted father of Scott and his wife Paula, and Stacey and Jason, and loving grandfather of Sienna, Hunter and Hayden, on September 19, 2025 in Boynton Beach Florida.

Norman moved to Long Beach in 10th grade and graduated from LBHS and attended Baruch College in Manhattan with a degree in accounting.

He was extremely well known in the Long Beach community and beyond. Norman loved Long Beach like so many of us.

He spent countless summers at the beaches. He was active in many children’s activities, led many youth groups and was credited for having bought Little League to Long Beach. He also coached and umpired many games.

Norman was nicknamed the “Pied Piper of Long Beach “, taking many kids to hockey games, and concerts at the Nassau Coliseum.

Norman and his lovely wife, owned and operated Baskin-Robbins icecream store on East Park Avenue for many years, always hiring local high school kids to learn about retail operations.

One of the reasons Norman was so well known in Long Beach was because he always was on his bicycle, either on the board walk or riding through town.

Norman also gave back to the community by being active in local politics, having served as a Democratic committee man for many years.

He came back to Long Beach for all family and friends special occasions. He adored talking and playing with his grandchildren and watching their various sports activities.

He will be sorely missed.
