Vote Passes To Grant MLK Community Center Lease Agreement

The Long Beach City Council voted 3-1 in favor of the measure.

LONG BEACH, NY — The Long Beach City Council and the voted in favor of a new lease agreement for the Martin Luther King Community Center.

"This is great news for our residents and a testament to our administration’s commitment to moving the City forward," said City Council President Brendan Finn.

After 30 years in the community without a lease for the MLK Center, members of the City Council voted to allow Finn to enter a lease deal with the community center on Riverside Boulevard.

The Council passed the resolution this week, 3-1, but it initially failed due to a required supermajority, the City of Long Beach's website said.

Following an executive session, the vote’s lone holdout requested a motion to reconsider. A second vote was held and the resolution passed.
