Whales so near to home.

It's post Labor Day in Long Beach. Does the shore beckon us even more—with whales?

I write Long Beach photo essays. And I know many Bellmore folks visit our City by the Sea often. The shore is only twenty minutes away, and it's awash in wildlife. I met a lady from Bellmore recently; she was a delight to encounter.

With summer done, well, at least it's post Labor Day. But the crowds are gone.

The beach has a unique flavor these days. It’s bare except for a stroller or fisherman here and there. Often, it is silent save for the cry of gulls and the crash of surf.

Since Labor Day, I’ve enjoyed the clear skies and cooler air, as well as dolphins, whales, and a simian here and there.

Yes, whales have been out there; I know many of you have spotted them. Is there anything more wonderful than seeing these magnificent mammals bursting through the sea's surface?

They can put a smile on your heart.

I’ve been out with my camera capturing shore life at its best. I've even captured a Bellmore simian at her best.
