Update: Rockville Centre Bicyclist Dies After Collision in Oceanside

The incident happened Sunday morning on Lawson Boulevard, police said.

Update: The bicyclist, Michele Penque, 27, of Rockville Centre, died at 4:34 p.m. Sunday of her injuries, police said.

A woman was struck by a car as she rode a bicycle in Oceanside Sunday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

At 10:35 a.m., the 27-year-old victim was riding south on Lawson Boulevard when she tried to cross Anchor Avenue, cops said. As she crossed, she collided with a 2012 Dodge pickup truck that was heading east on Anchor Avenue, police said.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with head trauma and is currently in critical condition, officials said. The driver of the truck, a 49-year-old man, reportedly escaped uninjured.

Nassau County Highway Patrol responded to the scene to perform brake and safety checks on the truck.
