Wrongway Moped Rider Dies After Being Hit Twice: Nassau Police
It happened at 8:32 p.m. Sunday on Rockaway Turnpike, police said.
NORTH LAWRENCE, NY — A 48-year-old died on Rockaway Turnpike Sunday evening after being struck by an SUV and a box truck, the Nassau Police Homicide Squad reported.
According to detectives, he was westbound on a blue moped at 8:32 p.m., traveling in the eastbound lane, when he was involved in a head-on collision with a 2015 Honda SUV being operated by a 57-year-old man.
Following the initial collision, he and the moped were struck in front of 605 Rockaway Turnpike by a 2004 box truck driven by a 21-year-old man who was also eastbound, police said.

As a result of the collisions, the victim suffered serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police Medic, police said; no other injuries were reported.
The operators of the Honda and the box truck remained at the scene, police said.
