Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. Just two weeks since a deadly fire destroyed it, the rebuilding process has begun at 78 Mulberry St. Workers have begun removing debris from within, and despite the massive amounts of damage, the structure has been deemed sturdy enough to renovate. The April 15 fire claimed the lives of a 91-year-old mother and her 52-year-old son. (Bowery Boogie)
  2. Permits have been filed for 75 Essex St. to convert a 4-story commercial building into a 14-story mixed-use development. Located between Delancey and Broome streets, the lot is a block from the Delancey-Essex subway station. The proposed development would yield 27,355 square feet across nine residences and commercial space. (New York YIMBY)
  3. Shake Shack has teamed with the Lower East Side favorite, Una Pizza Napolenta, to offer a special three course meal at Madison Square Park this week. According to Eater NY, the special menu will include "a spring crudite, a SmokeShack pizza that takes its cues from Shake Shack's bacon and cherry pepper-strewn SmokeShack cheeseburger and a Neapolitan dessert."
