Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- On an East Village block dubbed "Anarchy Row," a standoff between NYPD officers and a homeless woman ensued as workers tried to remove the woman's encampment. The action came as part of Mayor Eric Adams' controversial crackdown on homeless encampments. Protest NYC, a local organization of independent journalists, was tweeting about the events as the crowd grew larger and tensions heightened. (Patch)
- Police reported that a man was stabbed early on Tuesday morning at the Wall Street subway station. Shortly after 6 a.m., two men got into a fight on the train, and when they both exited the subway one man stabbed the other. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition while the search continues for the suspect. (CBS News)
- A bike repair ‘Fixit’ stand was installed at the corner of Chrystie and Stanton streets at the north end of Sara D. Roosevelt Park. The installation will allow cyclists to self-repair their bicycles thanks to a variety of handheld tools suspended by cords. The apparatus was designed by a company named Dero and is conveniently located next to one of the neighborhood's busy bike lanes. (Bowery Boogie)
