Apartment Fire Kills 2, Injures Others In NYC's Chinatown: Report
Two residents were killed in the early Friday morning fire in a six-story building, according to media reports.

NEW YORK, NY — Two people are dead and six are injured after a heavy fire in New York City's Chinatown neighborhood Friday, according to media reports.
The two-alarm fire happened before 4 a.m. at a six-story building at 78 Mulberry Street in Chinatown, according to Fox5. Over 100 firefighters joined the response to the heavy fire, which reportedly spread from the fifth floor.
NY1 reported the victims who died were a 91-year-old mother and 52-year-old son. One of the victims was pronounced dead on scene, and the other died at a hospital.

Others were injured, including at least two residents and two firefighters. One of the firefighters had fallen through a half-landing, a fire department chief told reporters.
The FDNY chief said one firefighter was injured after falling partially through a half-landing inside the building. He noted that the aging stairways inside the building had become unstable as the situation progressed.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. The Red Cross is assisting residents who sought help, according to NY1.
