Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A man on a bicycle fatally shot a 42-year-old man on E 4th Street on Friday morning. At approximately 9 a.m., Anthony Ramon was involved with an argument with the shooter who proceeded to open fire, hitting Ramon in the stomach and legs. Ramon was rushed to nearby Bellevue Hospital where he later died. No arrests have yet been made in connection to the incident. (Yahoo News)
  2. A recent proposal to raise rent in rent stabilized housing has drawn signifiant backlash from communities across New York City. Protestors gathered at a rally at City Hall on Thursday, organized by the Rent Justice Coalition Group, and called upon Mayor Eric Adams to roll back the rising rents across the city. The latest news has caused panic among the millions of New Yorkers living in rent stabilized housing. (The Guardian US)
  3. A second Starbucks in Lower Manhattan has unionized, which was confirmed by the National Relations Board. The workers the at 13-25 Astor Pl. location voted 11-2 on the motion, joining a Starbucks in the Meatpacking District. There are currently nine pending elections for New York Starbucks to unionize, and over 250 nationwide. (Patch)
