Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A young man in his 20s was injured after being hit by a driver on a Lower East Side street early on Monday morning. The victim was crossing East Houston at First Avenue at approximately 2:45 a.m. when the driver, believed to be in a Camaro, swerved and tried to avoid him. The driver hit the pedestrian anyway, and then smashed into a Honda. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, while the investigation remains ongoing. (NBC New York)
  2. Ten activists who were arrested during a protest against the plans for a new Manhattan Detention Center are facing civil disobedience charges. The group of community leaders, including State Assembly hopeful Grace Lee and State Senate candidate Vittoria Fariello, blocked a tractor trailer from delivering concrete on Baxter Street. The 10 protestors were slated to appear in front of a judge yesterday. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. Sunday night's storm woke many downtown New Yorkers, and a bolt of lightning struck One World Trade Center. The week ahead will likely bring an abundance of rain and wet weather, but likely nothing as thunderous as Sunday's storm. (Patch)
