Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. English Indie singer Tom Brennan was beaten and robbed inside the Red Lion bar on Beecker Street early on Thursday morning. The 26-year-old artist had played a show at The Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday evening, and went to The Red Lion afterwards to eat. Grennan suffered a ruptured ear, torn eardrum, and issues with his jaw in the unprovoked attack. (The Village Sun)
  2. The Hester Street fair has returned this weekend to the Seaport, at Pier 17. This year's incarnation will feature many returning vendors, and a wide array of new additions as well. Among the highlights for the opening weekend is the arrival of award-winning ramen team Menya Jiro. (The Lo-Down)
  3. A new StreetEasy study has revealed that renters are facing record-high prices, fewer apartments on the market, and fewer concessions. According to the study, typical asking rents in Manhattan currently stand at $3,695 over the first three months of the year—roughly $1,000 higher than this time last year. By the end of April 2021, there were 56,973 rentals listed on StreetEast compared to only 23,419 currently. (Patch)
