Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. The FDNY's Phoenix Society is working to bridge the cultural gap between the city's firefighters and Lower Manhattan's Asian residents, particularly in the wake of two devastating neighborhood fires. Only two weeks after a deadly fire broke out in a Mulberry Street apartment building, a Chatham Square building was destroyed. The Phoenix Society hopes to educate residents about fire safety, and preventative measures that can be taken in the even of an emergency. (WABC-TV)
  2. Smorgasburg, the outdoor food market, has returned to Lower Manhattan. The weekly event retuned to New York and New Jersey this week, with a location at the Oculus at the World Trade Center. The event will be held on Fridays between 11 a.m., and 7 p.m., offering cuisines from all over the globe. (PIX 11 NY)
