Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A five-alarm fire tore through the building at 6 Chatham Sq. in Chinatown early on Sunday morning. The fire began in the rear of the Dim Sum Palace shortly after midnight, and quickly spread throughout the entire building. The fire was under control after six hours, and approximately 70 firefighters responded, five of whom are reportedly suffering minor injuries.(Bowery Boogie)
  2. A group of individuals selling marijuana in Washington Square Park on 4/20 claimed to have been granted one-day vending permits from the Parks Department. Megan Moriarty, a spokesperson for the Parks Department, debunked this claim, maintaining that vending in the park is illegal. The overwhelming crowd on 4/20 proved difficult for local authorities to prevent people from both selling and using recreational cannabis in the park. (The Village Sun)
