Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:
- Thousands marched through Lower Manhattan yesterday, voicing their disgust for the Supreme Court's potential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. They began in Foley Square, and made their way through downtown streets, ending up in Washington Square Park. A large cloth was placed on the foot of the arch, depicting Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and a quote of hers from 2015. (AMNY)
- Charges against the "Chinatown 10" are to be dropped after they were arrested on Monday for blocking construction efforts on the new Chinatown mega-jail. Edward Cuccia, the lawyer who represented them, reported that the court was unable to locate the summonses for about half of the arrested protesters. Elected officials and local residents have continually voiced staunch opposition towards the project. (The Village Sun)
- The Rite-Aid at 7 Madison St. in Two Bridges is set to close on May 18. The announcement comes after Rite-Aid's corporate office announced the planned closure of 145 "unprofitable pharmacies." Despite being within sight of NYPD headquarters, the location has been the frequent subject of shoplifting. (Bowery Boogie)
