Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- An elderly woman was struck by a sanitation truck on Tuesday morning while she was crossing Kenmare Street. Surveillance footage shows the truck colliding with the victim at approximately 11 a.m., while she had the right of way. Police and firefighters happened to be located only a block away and responded immediately, while the victim seemed to only have sustained lacerations to her arm. (Bowery Boogie)
- Gaia Italian Cafe has unveiled a new location on East 3rd Street. The beloved local Italian kitchen had been previously located on East Houston Street, before it closed to difficulties brought on by the pandemic. Owner and chef Gaia Bagnasacco had been using the kitchen space at 119 Essex St. for her online business. (Bowery Boogie)
- Michelin-star chef Daniel Boulud announced his plans for a Downtown Manhattan restaurant, El Gratin. The new eatery will be located on the ground floor of the Beekman Hotel. The restaurant and its cuisine are inspired by Boulud's hometown of Lyon, France. (Yahoo Finance)
