Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A machete attack early on Monday morning left a man with a slash wound on his back. At approximately 5:14 a.m., the victim was assaulted shortly after he had been involved in a dispute at the corner of Grand and Pitt streets. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction while the victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. (AMNY)
  2. A shooting early on Sunday morning left two individuals with gunshot wounds, including on innocent bystander. At about 4 a.m. outside of the Dubai Cannabis Supply on Stanton Street, a 28 year old was shot in the groin following a dispute with the suspect. The bouncer of the nearby bar, Pianos was shot in the leg by a stray bullet, and transported to a local hospital in stable condition. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. New York City is on the verge of reaching "medium-risk" COVID-19 status as cases continue to rise. State health data reported 2,624 new cases on April 15, which is nearly three times the level than a month before. The steady increase in cases is likely fueled by the BA.2 subvariant of omicron.
