Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. The NYPD arrested a Lower East Side man wanted in connection to a December 2021 shooting that left a man injured in Brooklyn. The 41-year-old suspect, Craig Fambro, was charged with attempted murder, menacing, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, two counts of assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Two other unidentified suspects remain at large. (AMNY)
  2. The construction of the new Chinatown jail complex continues to be strongly opposed by the community. Chants of "no new jail" echoed throughout Baxter Street on Wednesday morning, where locals lined up, blocking construction tin crews from starting work on the new jail. The new Manhattan Detention Complex is part of a plan to build four borough-based jails that would replace Riker's Island. (WABC-TV)
  3. The rehabilitation of the Seward Park School park is nearing completion. Nearly six months after the area was destroyed by digging, the play-area known as the Seward Park Oval is on a steady pace to be completed on time. The site will feature a 43,200 square-foot oval to accommodate a new soccer field, tennis court, and a handball court. (Bowery Boogie)
