Man Dumps Hot Coffee On Women After Stealing Cash, Police Say

Police are searching for a man who stole $5 in cash from a woman and then dumped hot coffee on her, authorities said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A man stole cash from a woman's hand before dumping hot coffee on her and her companion last week, police said.

Authorities are searching for the man who is believed to have grabbed $5 in cash from a woman in side the Essex Street subway station before dumping coffee on her and running from the station, police said. The man, who is believed to be between 45 and 55 years old, was inside the subway station on Aug. 21 at about 9:45 a.m. when the two women, aged 24 and 25, were walking inside the station. Authorities say he grabbed $5 from the 25-year-old's hand before throwing the coffee on both of them. Police released surveillance footage of the man on Monday and are asking for the public's help in identifying him.
