Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- The NYPD is investigating the death of a man found unconscious early on Thursday morning. Police responded to a 911 call near Ludlow and Stanton streets at approximately 3:48 a.m., where the man was found unresponsive with no signs of trauma. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. (AMNY)
- The suspect accused of pushing Michelle Alyssa Go in front of an oncoming Q train at the Times Square subway station was deemed unfit for trial on Tuesday. Simon Martial, 61, will be sent to a psychiatric facility in the custody of the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene. The homeless suspect initially fled the scene but turned himself in and was charged with second degree murder. (ABC News)
- Viva Birria will open this weekend on Ludlow Street, one year after announcing its plans for a Lower East Side location. The grand opening is set for Saturday, when customers will receive a free taco with every purchase. This will be the first business to occupy the commercial space at 153 Ludlow St. since the building was gutted and upscaled five years ago. (Bowery Boogie)
