Man Struck By Cement Truck On The Lower East Side, Police Say

An 82-year-old man is being treated for his injuries after he was hit by a cement truck as he cross a street on Thursday, police said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — An 82-year-old man was struck and injured by a truck as he crossed a Lower East Side street on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The man was crossing the roadway near Chrystie and Rivington streets at about 1 p.m. when he was hit by a cement truck driving down the street, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. The man was transported to Bellevue with injuries in an unknown condition, authorities said.

The NYPD's initial investigation indicates that the man was walking in the street's crosswalk against the light, the spokeswoman said. The driver of the cement truck, a 48-year-old man, remained on scene after the collision and and was not immediately arrested, according to police. The NYPD spokesman said that no criminality was suspected in the incident.
