Man Who Threatened To Shoot 79-Year-Old In LES Sentenced To Rikers

The man who threatened to shoot a 79-year-old in July has been sentenced to Rikers.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A man who threatened to shoot a 79-year-old on the Lower East Side has been sentenced to serve more than eight months in jail, according to jail records.

Adam Maldonado was arrested in July and initially charged with attempted robbery before pleading guilty to attempted grand larceny in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor charge. DNAinfo first reported news of Maldonado's sentencing on Monday. According to prosecutors, Maldonado approached the 79-year-old man on Pitt Street and said he would open fire unless the man handed over his cash. At the time, Maldonado was sporting American flag shorts, which the 79-year-old's son snapped a photo of, police said. Maldonado left the old man and walked away empty-handed after threatening him, authorities said. A police officer identified him the next day.

Maldonado, 37, is expected to be released from jail on Rikers Island in March, according to court records. Patch was not immediately able to identify an attorney for Maldonado.
