New Market on Canal Street Will Feature Lots of Trendy Food

Bubble tea, ramen, and East Village's Davey's Ice Cream are just a few of the 11 expected vendors.

CHINATOWN, MANHATTAN—The widespread, empty retail space on Canal Street between Centre Street and West Broadway in Chinatown will soon be a food market targeted toward younger, hipper customers, Eater reported. The space used to be filled with small stalls and vendors more characteristic of Chinatown, but developer Philip Chong combined the stalls into larger, higher-end stores in 2012 to try to transform the feel of Chinatown retail, The Real Deal reported. Now it's going to be full of artisanal goods and foods.

The market will feature trendy food stands like Boba Guys bubble tea, East Village's Davey's Ice Cream, and a restaurant called Yori Nori from the company behind Korean ramen shop Mokbar, which is located in Chelsea Market. There are officially 11 vendors established for the market, Eater reported. The retail part of the market expected to open in October will feature 30 booths that sell goods like ceramics, flowers, and home goods.
