NY 74th State Assembly Election: What You Need To Know

EAST VILLAGE, NY — District 74's State Assembly seat is up for grabs and three democratic candidates will vie for the position during this week's primary.

The district represents a swath of Manhattan's east side, including the Lower East Side, East Village, Stuyvesant Town and Murray Hill. Incumbent Harvey Epstein, who was elected to replace Brain Kavanagh in an April special election after Kavangh was elected to the State Senate, is challenged by two political newcomers.

The race's hot button issues include affordable housing, the city's crumbling transportation infrastructure and funding for public schools. Whoever wins the Democratic primary will go on to face Republican candidate Bryan Cooper in the November general election.

When To Vote

The 2018 primary election will take place on Thursday Sept. 13 and polling sites will remain open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Where To Vote

Registered voters can find their polling site by logging their address into the New York State Board of Elections website.
