Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Frank James, the man wanted in connection for the Sunset Park subway shooting, was taken into custody in the East Village on Wednesday afternoon. The 62-year-old man was spotted by bystanders in the area of St. Marks Place and First Avenue, and was taken into custody at approximately 1:42 p.m. The attack left at least 29 people injured, shaking a city already on edge due to a rise in crime and violence. (ABC 7 NY)
- A new, protected bike lane is in progress along East Houston Street after nearly two years of planning. The road has been milled and paved as of the last few weeks, and crews have stenciled marking for the new lane. The new lanes will run along Houston from Second Avenue to the Waterfront. (Bowery Boogie)
- The controversial 70-story tower slated for Two Bridges has been issued permits by the Department of Buildings. The permits allow the owner-developer Chetrit Group to star working on the massive foundations, taking advantage of the 421a tax exemption which is set to expire June 15. General construction permits, however, have not yet been granted to the developer for this project. (Bowery Boogie)
