Tell Us: Best NYC Mooncakes To Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

Do you have a go to bakery for mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival? Patch wants to know.

NEW YORK CITY — A harvest tradition began this week with East Asian communities across the globe celebrating the first full moon of fall.

Based on the lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival corresponds with the bright orange glow of the Harvest Moon and is often celebrated with family gatherings, lantern lightings and digging into mooncakes — a dense sweet pastry that is baked or steamed.

The sweet treats are traditionally filled with lotus paste and salted egg yolk. Other variations include red bean or date pates. Modern mooncakes also cater to contemporary flavors including taro, green tea and chocolate. This year, Guinness even released its own flavor.
