LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A tourist was robbed on the Lower East Side early Thursday morning after police said six people attacked him with cooking pans before stealing his cell phone and wallet.
The robbery happened just before 2:10 a.m. between Ludlow and Rivington streets, police said. One suspect approached the victim before five others joined in, according to authorities.
“The victim was not from here … and it was unprovoked,” a spokeswoman for the NYPD told Patch. “We don’t believe they just joined into a dispute with someone they didn’t know. They knew him and joined in. All the perps were working together.”

Two of the five suspects who joined began hitting the 34-year-old victim multiple times with cooking pans and then stole his cellphone and wallet, which contained approximately $220 in cash, several forms of identification, and five credit cards, police said.
The individuals responsible for the theft fled north on Ludlow Street, police said. It's unknown where the other suspects fled.
