Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- Congressmember Carolyn B. Maloney joined representatives of nearly a dozen local community organizations to celebrate the securing of $6.3 million in project funding. Among the organizations to to receive the gift was Lower East Side's Vision Urbana. Eric Diaz, executive director of Vision Urban, was present to accept the award of $300,000. (The Village Sun)
- A man is wanted for repeatedly slapping a woman and stealing her phone on March 21, at approximately 4:30 a.m. The 26-year-old victim was on an escalator at the Bowling Green subway station when she was attacked, but refused medical attention. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. (Audacy)
- The body of a 35-year-old woman was found floating in the East River near a Lower Manhattan heliport on Friday morning. At approximately 7 a.m., the woman was found fully clothed near the South Street heliport. The cause of her death was not immediately known, and the investigation remains ongoing.
