Woman Hit, Killed by MTA Bus on East Houston Street
A 73-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a bus turning left onto Houston Street.
LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — An elderly woman was hit and killed by an MTA bus on East Houston Street on Tuesday morning. According to police, the woman was struck while trying to cross the street.
The woman was identified by police as Anna Colon, 73, from Brooklyn.
Police said the bus was driving down Avenue D toward Columbia Street and making a left onto East Houston Street just before 10 a.m. when the driver hit the victim in the intersection. The woman suffered "severe body trauma," according to police, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad, but a police spokesman said it appears as though the driver did not see the woman as he made the turn. The bus driver stayed on the scene, police said.
