82 Lynbrook HS Students Earn AP Scholar Awards

A total of 82 students in the Lynbrook High School Classes of 2013 and 2014 have earned the designation of Advanced Placement Scholar from the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement exams. 

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on a student’s performance on AP exams. A total of 23 students were named AP Scholars with Distinction, including two National AP Scholars. 

An additional 15 students were named AP Scholars with Honor, and 44 were designated as AP Scholars. They belong to a select group — only 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to earn an AP Scholar Award.

 “We are proud to have a record number of AP Scholars named this year, including two National AP Scholars,” said Superintendent Dr. Melissa Burak. “This outstanding achievement is the result of years of work and dedication on the part of our students and teachers. It is also a reflection of the district’s ongoing commitment to do everything possible to prepare students to excel in college and in life.”

Lynbrook High School offers 17 AP courses, which are open to any students willing to challenge themselves with this more rigorous college-level curriculum. Students receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams. 

As college admissions become more competitive, participation in AP courses has become an increasingly important component for acceptance to top schools. Successful completion of AP courses is also considered a good indicator of future success by most colleges.

National AP Scholars

Ryan Barrison and Melissa Epstein, both graduates of the Class of 2013, qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher on eight or more AP exams. This is the highest award an AP Scholar can earn.

AP Scholars with Distinction

A total of 23 students received AP Scholar with Distinction Awards by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Ryan Barrison, Marissa Bellusci, Brittany Cangelosi, Noah Chrein, Zoe Daniels, Erica DeMichiel, Matthew DeMichiel,       

Russell Doloboff, Melissa Epstein, Dana Fader, Sarah Gebbia, SoEun Lee, Tess Lewin-Jacus, Peter Lithen, Julia Marrandino, Stephanie Mertz, Margaret Neal, Angela Schickling, Sam Schneller, Samantha Sitt, Brandon Skordas, Nicolai Tayco and Brandon Wong. 

AP Scholars with Honor

A total of 15 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Tyler Ambrico, Maxwell Brown, Joseph Cappadona, Sarah Chyriwski, Jamie Collins, David Katz, Griffin Kreit, Allison Licciardi, Eduardo Martinez, Marykate McVeigh, Nicole Milillo, Seth Moreida, Zachary Proefriedt,       

Jenny Reed and Edward Tischler all achieved this distinction.
