
Long-time Malverne resident Bernard Havern Jr. passed away Friday, April 13, at the age of 68.
Havern served 23 years as a Nassau County Police officer, and during this time even earned the title "Officer of the Year."
Bernie, as most called him, was known in Malverne and Rockville Centre for his dedicated work with the Malverne Little League and Molloy College baseball programs.

He is credited with establishing Molloy College’s baseball program, which went on to win a championship. For his efforts, Havern was inducted into Molloy College’s “Hall of Fame” on October 21, 2011.
Havern also was very active with the St. Mary’s/Marist Stella Knights of Columbus Council #2228 in Lynbrook

According to a memorial page set up in Havern's name, he "was a man of great faith and character who loved life and all who came to know and share his life with him."
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 17, at 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne.
