Burak to be Named Lynbrook Schools Chief

Move comes after Burak was appointed interim superintendent in September of 2012.

Dr. Melissa Burak -- the current interim superintendent for the Lynbrook School District -- will be officially appointed superintendent of schools at next week's board of education meeting.

Burak was appointed interim superintendent in September of 2012 after her predecessor, Dr. Santo Barbarino, suffered a heart attack before the beginning of the school year.

"After conducting an extensive and thorough search, including interviews with several highly qualified candidates, the board is confident that Dr. Burak possesses the professional and leadership qualifications to lead our district to the next level of success," the district said in a statement Tuesday.

The community rallied for Burak to get the permanent position at a school forum in October, with many claiming that "The best candidate for the job already works here in Lynbrook."

The Lynbrook Board of Education will approve the appointment of Dr. Burak as superintendent of schools at its regularly scheduled meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. on May 8 at Lynbrook High School.
