Crimes Nearby: Valley Stream Man Robbed By Acquaintance, DWI Suspect Fights Police

A rundown of stories happening in the areas surrounding Malverne and West Hempstead.

The following information was supplied by the Lynbrook, Rockville Centre, Long Beach and Nassau County Police Departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

With help from a Hempstead man, a Hewlett man allegedly robbed an aquaintance from Valley Stream Thursday night, according to police.

Mark Gobetz, 19, of Hewlett, and Jahkim Marson, 18, of Hempstead, went to the 20-year-old victim’s house in Valley Stream and apparently lured him into the backyard, police said. Marson allegedly confronted the victim and told him he had a gun before taking car keys from the victim's pocket. Marson then went into the victim’s 1998 Oldsmobile and stole a wallet containing an unknown amount of money. The victim was led back into his house as one of the defendants ransacked the bedrooms, taking an iPod and Xbox 360.

A Long Beach man with a history of driving drunk was arrested Monday night after police chased him and he fought with an officer, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Timothy Schroeder, 38, was finally subdued by four officers and with the help of a Good Samaritan.

Police later determined that Schroeder had three prior DWI convictions and was required to have an interlock device installed in his car, which he was supposed to breathe into before operating the vehicle, authorities said. He was also driving with a suspended license.
