Driver Hits Parked Car Into Fire Hydrant in West Hempstead

Story by Lou Minutoli:

A driver lost control of his vehicle, possibly due to a medical emergency, and crashed into a parked SUV on Dogwood Avenue in West Hempstead early Monday afternoon.

The impact caused the parked vehicle to strike a fire hydrant, snapping it at the base and causing a flooding condition in the area.

Nassau County EMS personnel were on the scene and the West Hempstead Water District quickly shut down the flowing water.

The condition of the driver was not available.
