Garden City, NY (MAY 2023)—Girl Scouts of Nassau County announced today that Franklin Square resident Denise Voda has been elected to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors through 2025. Voda was one of 17 board members sworn in during the organization’s 58th Annual Meeting, which was held at the Ruth S. Harley University Center on the Adelphi University campus. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors comprises lifelong Girl Scouts, community leaders, and nonprofit and corporative executives who provide leadership, innovation and constant support to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County council.

“Girl Scouts of Nassau County is proud to have such prestigious and accomplished members on its Board of Directors to inspire and empower our Girl Scouts,” said Randell Bynum, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “I am confident that this group of leaders will help cultivate the Girl Scout experience and help fulfill our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County board of directors provide strategic leadership and work collaboratively to build courage, confidence, and character in Nassau County girls. They will also help raise vital funds to expand access to Girl Scout experiences that socially, academically and emotionally empower girls throughout our community.

This is Denise Voda’s first term serving on the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors. She was a Girl Scout in Queens and Suffolk for 10 years and has been an active adult member of Girl Scouts of Nassau County and the West Hempstead Franklin Square (WHFS) Service Unit since 1989. Her daughter joined Girl Scouts as a Girl Scout Daisy and earned her Girl Scout Gold Award. Denise was a Girl Scout leader until 2002 and has been a member of the WHFS Service Team for over 25 years, holding various positions including Event Chair, Personnel Chair, Secretary, Sunshine & Sympathy, Bridging and Awards Ceremony Coordinator, CAV, Trip Application Chair, and Publicity. On the council level, Denise was one of the founders and co-chairs of the Girls Go the Distance Walkathon/ Family Fun Day, is a member of the Adult Recognitions Committee, was a member of the Alumni Event Committee, the 100th Anniversary Gala Committee, and the Board Development Committee, as well as helping wherever she can. Denise has also been a Cub Scout Den Mother and Pack Board member, coach and board member for the Franklin Square Raiders Soccer Club, PTA member, and Board Member, and was involved in volunteering at various events at Kellenberg Memorial High School while her children were students. Along with her Girl Scout activities and working full-time, Denise is also an “at-home” volunteer crocheting blankets, scarves, hats, and other items to donate to various charitable organizations through several organizations including the NYU Naughty Knitters.
