Lynbrook Students Infusing Technology and Literacy into Art Instruction

By Rosemary Leonetti

Students at Lynbrook North Middle School are making use of the latest technology in their art classes in a way that supports their development as young artists, while honing their skills in English language arts.

Under the guidance of art teacher Katie Kelly, students have been using a tablet-friendly version of Artsonia, a program that allows students to photograph, write about and present their work in a totally secure environment. Ms. Kelly gave her students writing prompts that encouraged them to reflect and write about their art projects.

Through Artsonia, the students were able to submit their written reflections to her for review, publish and more. Students used information they had learned regarding specific periods of art cultures and work processes to write descriptions of their art.
