Malverne Playground Awaiting Repairs
Village DPW will be fixing spring rider and replacing woodchips at Carbone Park.

Young Malvernites who have missed riding on their favorite blue Dolphin inside Carbone Park will be happy to hear that the playground apparatus will soon be repaired.
The broken spring rider is currently out of commission, surrounded by Malverne Department of Public Works barricades, but at Wednesday's village board meeting DPW Superintendent Paul Jessup explained that the replacement parts have been ordered and should arrive any day now.
Trustee Patricia Canzoneri-Callahan also said that the village will be replacing the woodchips that line the Church Street park. The ones that were originally placed there have deteriorated overtime and are unsafe, but Canzoneri-Callahan said these will be swapped out for a new batch. However, since the specially, engineered woodchips need to be shipped from Alabama, it will take three to four weeks for them to arrive.

"It's not possible to get them locally," she added, explaining that she and Jessup had looked into this option.
Canzoneri-Callahan also told residents that the village board is aware of the problems with the drinking fountains at in Westwood. The fountains were not working because someone had filled them with sand and other debris. She said the DPW fixed the fountains, but urged parents to watch their children while inside the park to make sure they are not putting anything inside that would clog them again.

"We are aware of these problems and doing everything we can do address the issues," she stated, but also encouraged residents to contact Village Hall (516-599-1200) whenever they spot a hazardous condition or something that is in need of repair. She also reminded residents that no dogs are allowed inside the parks.
