Malverne Police Remind Residents to Lock Car Doors

Thieves rummaging through vehicles left unsecured in the village.

"Don't make it easy for them."

That was Malverne Police Chief John Aresta's advice to residents in an interview with Patch in December 2010 after his department received several reports of thieves stealing valuables from unlocked cars parked in the village.

About a month later, Malverne Police arrested two Lakeview teens for the grand larcenies after a vigilant resident tipped them off. But in the past week, police have received four reports from residents in the village that an unknown suspect, or perhaps even multiple suspects, entered their unlocked vehicles and removed change and other items from inside.
