Man Arrested After Being Paid $398K For Work On LI Home That Was Never Completed: PD
He was arrested and then taken into custody by ICE agents, police say.
MALVERNE, NY — A Yonkers man was arrested after being paid $398,000 by a woman, 78, for work on her home that was never completed, police said.
According to Nassau County police, Michael Anderson, 35, was arrested on Tuesday at 10:47 a.m. in Malverne. According to detectives, in October 2024, a 78-year-old woman was approached at her home by an unknown male claiming that she needed a new roof.
She agreed to have construction work done for an estimated $70,000 but over the next couple months, the man kept requesting more and more money, police said.

The woman issued multiple checks totaling $398,000 — but the work was not been completed, police said.
On Tuesday, Anderson, 35, was placed under arrest when he responded to the victim’s home to pick up a check for $75,000, police said. The investigation is ongoing to find an additional unknown male involved in the incident, police said.

Anderson was charged with fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, police said. He was released on an appearance ticket and taken into custody by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement, or ICE, agents, police said.
