Man Stole Wallet from Office at NUMC

Cops said the man used a hospital employee's debit and credit cards in Hempstead and Freeport after stealing them from an office.

Police are searching for a man they say stole a Nassau University Medical Center employee’s wallet and made several charges to her accounts last month.

On April 1, the 30-year-old victim was working on the third floor of the hospital when she noticed someone had stolen her wallet, Nassau Police said. The wallet, which was in her pocketbook inside an unlocked office, contained Bethpage Credit Union credit and debit cards, police said.

The victim’s cards were then used at four locations in Freeport and Hempstead in the following days and weeks, cops said. Incidents included:

  • April 1 at 11:45 p.m. Credit card used at Exxon Vega Gas Station on Henry Street in Freeport
  • April 2 at 12:05 a.m. Cash withdrawal made at Bethpage Credit Union branch ATM on Fulton Street in Hempstead
  • April 2 at 1:16 a.m. Debit card used at Walgreens on Henry Street in Freeport
  • April 9 at 4:39 p.m. Cash withdrawal at Bethpage Credit Union on W. Merrick Road in Freeport

Investigators believe the subject is a black man, heavy build, and was wearing a red sweatshirt with a Champion logo, black pants, red sneakers, and a black hat during the incidents on April 1 and 2.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
